It was a windy, 45 degree day however sometimes those can be the best days when you want to just get out and paddle.  The trip did not disappoint at all.  I just picked up a really cool spray skirt for the kayak, and it was worth every penny....what a difference a good spray skirt makes in a touring kayak!  I am ready for some even bigger trips this year.

Meremac River, St. Louis County, MO. November 21st, 2010: Great maiden voyage of the new Feelfree Atlantis 14 sea kayak!

This is the video from our "maiden voyage"of the new touring/sea kayak I purchased this weekend.  It is a Feelfree Atlantis 14 touring/sea kayak.  I got it at Branson Kayak.  I have known Rodney for a number of years, and it is the spot I picked up my first fishing kayak.  If you are looking for an excellent kayak, the Feelfree Kayak brand is a good way to go.  Branson Kayak is the only distributor in Missouri.  It was worth the drive from St. Louis to Branson

Once I got all the kinks worked out in regards to the rudder and balance, the paddle today was incredible.  It really started to get windy, but fortunately it was on our back heading downstream.  We did about 6 miles or so, and saw wild turkeys and kingfishers.  Ray was throwing a mini spinner, but the fish are seemingly dormant at this time.  Time spent paddeling with friends is always good time spent.  I am exciting about all the possiblities this winter now I have a touring kayak.  This will be the kayak I race on the Missouri River next year....very excited!

Ater the 20 mile race

It was so incredible to go for 20 miles on the Missouri River with a Kayak....I will be back.  I did not place tops, but I placed, and that is something I am proud of.  It was so great to kayak with Ray and see him kick butt with his Necky tourning Kayak...I think a touring kayak will be in the works real soon.  I was so suprised to see Mel, Mom and Shelby at the fishing line...they got some cool shots of me coming over the finish line.  We also really appreciated my sister Jenni coming out to support us and help us get the car from Weldon Spring...I was exhausted after...It was such a big help.  This was something so worth doing...It had been a dream of mine since I was a kid...being able to navigate the big river.....About 1/4 into it, I almost got taken out by an Asian Carp...saw it in the corner of my eye and it hit the aft of the kayak...good deal.  I stayed in the middle of the channel almost the entire trip.

Asian Carps have become a real problem on the Missouri River....They take the food and resources away from the native Spoonbill and Sturgeon...The fisherman is referring to this problem in the first video


If you fish, this is as good as it gets....not only do you have a massive stringer, but you have 30+ people hanging out at the boat ramp getting ready to launch for the Clean River Challenge 2010.

Spring River, Twin Bridges SP, Oklahoma, July 29th, 2010: Fishing a tad slow, great potential!

Paddled all around these islands...very scenic!

I arrived at Twin Bridges SP, Oklahoma around 3:30 in the afternoon and got the kayak launched- extreme heat both air and water.  Paddled all around the islands in the middle of the channel.  There is a really good put-in point for kayaks and canoes if you go up the hill in the state park...great vista to see the entire river as well.  This is the point where the Neosho River and the Spring River merge to form the Grand River and Grand Lake in Oklahoma.  I got a chance to chat with the fishing barge operator...this is an incredible catfish fishery.  On the way out, he was cleaning a very large flathead catfish caught on a jug line.  I am going to come back later and target some of these catfish!
